ANO Sports Broadcasting, Moscow / Russia

The Task

To construct seven identical high-grade SNG vehicles for the Russian production company ANO Sports Broadcasting to work smoothly even under the extreme Russian winter climate. Satcom System to be capable for uplink of two PGM signals.

The Challenge

The vehicles were to be engineered, constructed and delivered within a seven-month period, ready in time for use at major international as well as domestic sport and show events. The fierce Russian climate with warm summers and very hard winters presented a challenge in itself. But the technical challenge providing large antennas, redundancy, phase combination, communication channels and a fully equipped A/V section was perhaps even greater.

The Solution

Seven 5 ton 4×4 Mercedes Sprinters were delivered in a short time period with rigorous weather-proofing for the extreme Russian winter climate. For maximum independence from production environments at site the Vans are powered by a sophisticated UPS System and a Panda Power Generator. The DSNG units have 1.8 m antennas, two 400 Watt phase-combined TWTAs and Ericsson Voyager II encoders, chosen partly for the quality of the on-site service in Russia. They also feature Sony XDCAM camcorders, Riedel Intercom, Tektronix measurement equipment and a Yamaha audio mixer.

ANO used them successfully for the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi 2014 and for the World Summer University Games in Kazan in 2013 as well for other sports and show events as uplink vehicles.
